Your Data and How It Is Used

Here at SparkyChick Ltd. (trading as SparkyChick), the only information I store and use will be that required to communicate with you for the purposes of conducting our business. Typically this will be your name, address, telephone number(s) and an email address (as they appear on my invoices).

This information is stored on a secure desktop computer. It is not accessible to anyone other than SparkyChick employees (currently only myself) and it is not accessible via the internet. Some information is shared via Google with my mobile phone in the form of appointments and contact records. Appointments are deleted from Google (and my phone) 30 days after they have concluded. Contact records are only created for customers with whom I have regular or sustained contact.

This information is retained upon conclusion of our business for accounting purposes (I am required to keep records for a period of 6 years after the end of the accounting period to which they relate).

Where official records required by The Wiring Regulations (typically Electrical Installation Certificates, Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificates and Electrical Installation Condition Reports) and The Building Regulations (typically Part P Building Control Notifications) are created as part of our business, these will be retained indefinitely.

Beyond these specific cases, I do not process your data in anyway. I do not sell your data and I do not share it with third parties for commercial or marketing purposes. The only exception to this is the financial records (invoices and internal accounting records) provided to my accountant at the end of a financial year.

The GDPR also strengthens your rights with regards to the data companies store about you. For further information please visit the Guide to the General Data Protection Regulations provided by the Information Comissioner’s Office.

As stated above, the GDPR also changes the way companies are allowed to communicate with you.

Companies can no longer assume you consent to receiving communications from them. They must seek your consent to receive communications beyond those required to conduct their business with you.

With this in mind, there may be times when I would like to send an email newsletter to existing customers. This may provide company news or news of products I think you may find interesting. To facilitate this, I am in the process of setting up a newsletter service on my company website. If you would like to subscribe to any of my newsletters, please visit this page at any time to adjust your mailing preferences.

Currently there are two lists you can subscribe to:-

  • Newsletter – This list will be used to send you general news about the company and/or products I think may be of interest to you, my clients
  • Product Recalls – This list will be used to send details of product recalls I hear about (this is likely to be mainly electrical products)

Please note:- Even if you do not subscribe to the product recalls list, if I receive information regarding a recall for a product I have supplied to you, I will contact you to provide you with the relevant information regarding the recall.
